Great response of the Skopelos friends at the call of the Nautical Club through the campaign “Skopelos Needs U” at the social media for assistance to the victims of the great disaster of September.
Friends of the club and of Skopelos, Greek and foreign, the producers of “mamma mia” and numerous other supporters of the island helped us to gather today the amount of 19230.90 euros.
On Friday the 4th of December at 18.00 everyone was invited at the Municipal Cafe of Skopelos to attend a small ceremony where vouchers were given to those affected by the flood.
Beneficiaries were selected according to the list of affected for the first residence as shaped by the Municipality of Skopelos and the Fire Service.
After contacting each of the beneficiaries the Club registered the needs to be covered with the first € 10.000 € as it was set from the beginning of our fundraising campaign.
Then we requested offers from all shops of Skopelos, in order to support local businesses and the most advantageous was selected. More than 25 appliances (washing machines, refrigerators, cookers, etc.) were purchased in order to alleviate even a little those who suffered major damage through the flood. The Board the Nautical Club of Skopelos and the members hope that this symbolic move will be followed by other campaigns for local and state compensation, which we hope to offer substantial relief to those who have suffered major disasters.
Our campaign will continue until Christmas with an ideal target to gather other 10.769.10 € in order to be given to businesses which suffered incalculable losses and thus contributing to their relief.
